Welcome to the Kiwi Skate Learn to Roller Skate Programme

Kiwi Skate is Skate NZ’s flagship learn-to-skate programme for beginners of all ages designed to teach the fundamentals of skating in a progressive and sequential manner.

The focus is on fun, participation and basic skill development. Participants earn awards as skills are mastered, and once all of the skills of a level are mastered, a certificate is awarded signifying the skater is ready to progress to the next Kiwi Skate level. At the completion of the Kiwi Skate Gold level, skaters will be ready to move to the STAR skate proficiency programme.

Lessons are given in group format and led by Skate NZ Accredited coaches. Coaches may be assisted by trained Programme Assistants (PA’s), which are usually the senior skaters in the club.

Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.

Exciting new features include a fresh new look, new awards, great tools for coaches and most importantly a nationwide curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and keep skaters engaged. The result is a dynamic new programme that prepares all skaters for virtually every roller sport.
